Despite living in landlocked Arkansas, Travel Advisor Linda Allen is an expert on cruising the seven seas (and any other bodies of water!). With over 20 years of experience, she knows the ships top to bottom and helps travelers have the very best experience on board. From which rooms have the best views (and which ones have obstructed views) to what floor is ideal for someone who gets seasick, Linda has helped people make the most of their trip. She is a contributor to Conde Nast Traveler and is frequently quoted in the publication. We caught up with Linda between ports to find out her go-to getaway, most inspirational destination and more!
1. What is the best travel advice you have ever received?
Pack Less. Most people do over pack and then they are weighed down with things they don’t really need.
2. If you could leave today and go anywhere, where would you go?
3. What is your go-to getaway?
I like to do domestic 2-for-1 trips since I go to so many cruise events that are only 2 or 3 days. I’ll add a land package to a short cruise and see something that is on my bucket list. Recently, I had a meeting in Vegas and added a road trip to Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon, a naming ceremony on a cruise ship with a visit to St. Augustine FL and a pre-inaugural in NYC with a train trip up the Hudson Valley and Niagara Falls.
4. What is your travel motto?
Travel is an adventure, but you never know what part is going to be the adventure.
5. What is your travel extravagance?
I try to have at least one spa/beauty treatment on every ship.
6. What has been the most inspirational destination?
A Seine river cruise that included the Beaches of Normandy. My Dad was a paratrooper behind the lines in France on D-day.
7. Where are you headed next?
My son Lawson and I will be attending Cruise World November 6-7 in Florida. Since we are based in Arkansas, it is difficult for us to see our cruise reps, so this is a good way to stay in touch with the companies I sell. We will also be able to do inspections of the MSC Divina, Holland America’s Nieuw Amsterdam and the Carnival Breeze, and we will be on the Regal Princess for the naming ceremony.
