1. What is your travel motto?

When in doubt, GO.  Life is fleeting; children grow up, circumstances change.  Rarely have I ever regretted going on a trip.  The experience stays with you forever, and the memory exceeds whatever short-term sacrifice was needed to make it happen.

2. What 5 things do you always have in your carry on?

My yoga pants – as soon as I board any international or long-haul flight, I change into them – my earphones, chargers for my cell and computer, melatonin, and photos of my family.

3. What’s the up and coming destination right now?

Sri Lanka. Known as the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean”, this country offers a little bit of everything from palm-studded beaches, rolling tea plantations, sacred sights, wildlife, and some of the best cuisine in the world.  A great add on would be a few days in the beautiful Maldives or India, a wonderful country that heightens all the senses.

4. Where are you headed next?

I’ll soon be returning to my favorite part of the world—South America! First to Buenos Aires for some good shopping, culture, and cuisine where I’m at the wonderful Park Hyatt BA. Next, I’m leading my 4th Annual Art Trip at the Estancia Vik in Jose Ignacio, Uruguay.  It’s my favorite place in the world. We paint with some exceptional artists, and have photography workshops at the pristine beach of Cabo Polonio, a unique place where sea lions frolic and gigantic sand dunes lie at the tip of the peninsula. We also ride horses, swim, walk on beautiful beaches, ride bikes, encounter armadillos and ostriches, shop, get dolled up for cocktails and fabulous dinners, attend a local art show and visit the ateliers of top local artists, take a cooking lesson, experience sunsets that one would have to see to believe, drink fine wines, dance a little, and even sing.  We go to bed smiling and wake up wondering if it were all but a dream…but no:  I am back in paradise AGAIN!

5. If you could leave today and go anywhere, where would you go?

I’d go to Laucala in Fiji or to Indonesia’s Sumba Island to Nihiwatu. Both are world class beach resorts far away from it all with little tourism development, which is what I love to discover most: unspoiled natural beauty…far away from anything.

6. What is the best travel advice you’ve ever received?

I have to say it’s the secret I like to pass onto my own clients: Try to settle in and really get to know and enjoy a destination.  The less you move around from place to place, the more you feel like a local.  Your memories will be richer.  If you fall in love with a particular place, you’ll go back.

7. What is your go-to getaway?

South America. I love the people, the food, the wine, the destinations, the diverse accommodations, the value, and the ease of travel… no jet lag! I recently returned from a quick jaunt (4 nights) in Chile, visiting the newly opened Viña Vik in Millahue Valley—a must visit for any wine lover.  I’m headed back to Argentina and Uruguay in a month and back again in April to Argentina….I wouldn’t have it any other way.
